222: What is foam rolling actually for? (it’s not what you think)

Foam rolling- you’ve probably done it. The actual term is SMR (self myofascial release) and you can do it with a number of different modalities outside of a foam roller like: tennis ball, lacrosse ball, with your hands, a rolling pin, a theragun, frozen water bottle, etc.

If you’re a trainer, you probably have your clients performing SMR on a regular basis.

If you’re a client, you probably think that since it hurts so good (it does!) that it’s “working.”

But, what does foam rolling ACTUALLY do? It’s not what you think.

This is a great episode for clients & trainers alike.

You see, the thing is that we need more trainers who know what they’re doing and more clients who know if their trainer knows what they’re doing.

We also need more integrity inside the Physical Therapy world (hard sometimes due to insurance!) and especially inside the Chiropractor world.

This is a must listen if you’ve ever foam rolled or prescribed foam rolling to your clients.
