Simple + Cozy Baby Room: Paint Colors & Board and Batten Wall

My home decor style is accidentally inspired by the colors of my own seasonal color analysis.

I like natural, earthy tones, cozy textures, and plenty of blank space. I’m not one to put tchotchkes on a shelf and I’m not a fan of trendy Target art on a wall just to fill it up.

When came time to design our daughter’s room, I knew I wouldn’t be following a lot of the social media trends I’d been seeing: busy wall paper, color drenched walls, or shelves full of decor.

I wanted warm, cozy, and simple.

The Paint Hunt

I was on the hunt for the perfect shade of brown for a board and batten accent wall.

Something warm with purple undertones.

After multiple trips to the store for more swatches, it was time to test some samples.

The original green color was making it hard to tell the true shade of brown so I painted white in between to get a better feel for it.

Tip: When testing paint colors, be sure to view it at multiple points throughout the day. It will look different depending on where the sun is.

(I swear they looked very different in real life, although my husband would beg to differ.)

For the rest of the room, we went with ‘My Alibi’ from Behr Dynasty in eggshell. It’s the perfect, unassuming color. It’s considered an off-white, but has warm, dusty pink undertones. The perfect blend of neutral and feminine without being obnoxious.

Simple Board and Batten Wall

For the Board & Batten wall, we followed this YouTube video.

The shortcut we loved was to install the batten with no boards- meaning, the only wood we added were the raised pieces you see and we did not add additional layers of board as the base layer.

Not shown: we installed these paintable outlet covers.
